The Rundown: Tony Stark assembles a new team on the west coast, but they have a lot of issues.
The newest hero in Los Angeles is making a name for himself by saving civilians and fighting terrorists as a member of the West Coast Avengers. That new member is Ultron. At the same time, Tony is reduced to using an old armor build when the terrorists go after him personally and their mission takes some dangerous turns when one of the villains they’re trying to redeem makes a huge tactical error.
In the aftermath, Tony decides to keep the experiment going by bringing in another hero who could help balance the team out. Unfortunately, her recent undercover work has left her emotionally broken. At the same time, the team’s trust in Ultron might be a little premature.
The Story: Gerry Duggan crafts an intriguing story in this first issue. There are some interesting surprises throughout the story and I like the mystery being developed within it. The action was fun and thrilling and I am hopeful that the character dynamics will show through as the story progresses.
The Art: Kim delivers some great art throughout the issue. The action is definitely a visual highlight. Things always seemed to be in motion and I really liked how the imagery flowed from moment to moment.
